Soul Kitchen, on the menu starting July 30

Fatih Akin is moving away for the moment from the tragic movie genre to deliver this summer’s best comedy. And the critics are loving it!

In France, Didier Roth-Bettoni of Première gives nothing less than four stars (out of four, not all the stars of the universe). While Adrian Gombeaud of Positif draws a culinary parallel, "Soul Kitchen is quite the amusing side-dish.” For Philippe Azoury of Libération, it is more like an all-you-can-eat buffet: "It’s all here in Soul Kitchen, and more.”

In Quebec, the face, and star, of Soul Kitchen, Adam Bousdoukos, graces the covers of two prominent movie magazines now available on newsstands (Séquences and Cinébulles). Both publications are full of praise for the film that garnered the Special Jury Award at last year’s Venice Film Festival ...

Cinébulles’s Stephane Defoy writes: "Good food, good music, hot romance and an impossible quest, featuring many twists and turns. This perfect recipe makes Soul Kitchen welcoming, fun and colourful, reminiscent of a wonderful dinner featuring good wine and even better company." Elie Castiel from Séquences, states that the Hamburg filmmaker’s stage direction is "alive, dynamic, whirling to the pace of events as they unfold.” He enthusiastically concludes with: "effective and sensual, Soul Kitchen is a breath of fresh air, a celebration of madness and as good a way as any to make the dream real."

A great comedy, cooked by a great chef, now, is that not an attractive proposition?
