CONTEST: Je serai là

Special screening Friday and Saturday with Iphigénie Marcoux-Fortier

Cinephiles, we would like to thank each, and every, one of you for your support of the project that led to our purchasing the eXcentris theatres. The number of you who signed our declaration on-line and at our box-office counter was prodigious. Without your help, the historic announcement that we made last Friday would never have been possible (read the communiqué here).

Now, next fall, two important movie projectors that have remained dormant since April 2009 will be reanimated to once again help us fulfill our mission – presenting the best possible films under the best possible conditions. Until then, the Cinéma Parallèle continues to run the first theatre in the complex and is very pleased to be premiering: Je serai là this week.

Je serai là explores the fabric of life for five Mexican migrant workers in a small community in Oaxaca State, Mexico. This documentary is a testimony from those who stayed to those who have left; it is a film about longing for loved ones and the hopes for a better life.

To highlight the film’s release at the Parallèle, co-director Iphigénie Marcoux-Fortier will be here on Friday and Saturday at 5:30pm. It is the perfect opportunity to learn more about some of the problems that arose following the North American Free Trade Agreement.
