This week at Cinéma Excentris!

This week there will be no hiding your head in the sand! Two essential documentaries—with a whole lot to say about the world we are living in—start showing.

In Trou Story, Richard Desjardins and Robert Monderie continue in the same provocative vein as their earlierForest Alert, this time turning their lens on Canada’s mining industry. Through the use of striking images, rare archival footage, and interviews this feature documentary looks at company profits and the impact that mining has on the environment and workers’ health

Trou Story
- November 4 to 10: 3:30pm > 5:15pm > 7:00pm

Inspired by Ronald Wright’s bestseller A Short History Of Progress, Surviving Progress (Survivre au Progrès) presents the story of human advancement as awe-inspiring and double-edged. It reveals the grave risk of running the 21st century’s software — our knowhow— on the ancient hardware of our primate brain which hasn’t been upgraded in 50,000 years. With rich imagery and an immersive soundtrack, filmmakers Mathieu Roy and Harold Crooks launch us on journey to contemplate our evolution from cave-dwellers to space explorers.

**Mathieu Roy will be present Friday at the 8:30pm screening.**
